Kololo Game Reserve offers a unique concept: a diverse array of wildlife and luxurious, comfortable accommodation in a private, protected concession where only the safe wildlife roams free. With the Big 5 safely behind the Welgevonden Gate, Kololo is an ideal destination for families. Children are free to explore the area, enjoying the adventure of the ‘safe’ wildlife on 3,000 hectares of private concession within the larger Welgevonden Game Reserve. Kololo has its own gate providing direct access to the rest of the reserve.

Hidden in the lush African bush, but they are still in close proximity of the restaurant and pool

(2 persons, Wheelchair Friendly) – Kudu is hidden in the lush African bush but is still in close proximity of the restaurant and pool. Weaver, Drogo, Kingfisher
(2 persons) – Situated on beautiful lawns and surrounded by aged trees. The spacious veranda is idea for those who really want to experience the African outdoors. The verandah leads to a fully equipped kitchen. 1 living/bedroom with 2 single beds, separate bathroom with shower and separate toilet. Twin beds are pushed together, but distinct.
(2 persons) – Located close to the swimming pool and the restaurant, overlooking the Kololo river and mountains. A very pleasant and luxurious chalet with a lot of privacy. For newly weds, this is the perfect place to spend the honeymoon. The sound of the river is soothing and the sound of birds and other animals enchanting. The terrace is spacious with a good view on Welgevonden. 1 living/bedroom with 2 single beds, kitchen, separate bathroom with shower and separate toilet. 2 single beds that are pushed together, but still have a gap.
Chalet Oom Piet
(4 persons, 2 bedrooms; minimum 2 pax) is the original farm house that was built in 1916 by Oom Piet, the first owner of Kololo Game Reserve. Fully renovated in 2009. Two spacious bedrooms sleep 4. Each has a private bathroom and toilet. From the large porch you can sit and relax while you watch the game nearby. You overlook the waving, green grass bordering the Kololo river. There is a big chance you will see Kudu or Impala quietly grazing close to your veranda, unaware of your presence. Oom Piet is decorated very tastefully, with a fully equipped open space kitchen. First bedroom with double bed, separate bathroom with bath, shower and separate toilet. Second bedroom with 2 single beds pushed together but separate, separate bathroom with shower and separate toilet, open plan kitchen
(5 pax, 2 bedrooms, minimum 2 pax) – Overlooking the rolling green lawns and Welgevonden. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, spacious living room and private terrace. The terrace overlooks Kololo and Welgevonden Game Reserve. 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds (pushed together, separate), 1 loft with 1 single bed, 1 separate bathroom with shower and toilet, kitchen.
Cheetah, Giraffe, Elephant
(6 pax, 3 bedrooms, min. 4 pax) – built in 2009-2010, beautifully situated on the outskirts of Kololo, near the restaurant and pool with a beautiful view over the mountains of Kololo and Welgevonden. An abundance of wildlife. 3 bedrooms, one located on the first floor with balcony. Each room has its own bathroom and a separate toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped, the living room has an open fireplace, and the spacious outside terrace has a barbecue built into the chimney. There is telephone and wireless internet First floor bedroom (2 single beds pushed together imperfectly), separate bathroom with bath, shower, separate toilet, balcony. 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds, separate bathroom with shower (indoor and outdoor shower), and toilet.
(4 pax, 2 bedrooms, min 2 pax) – Queens has a spacious living room and a fully equipped kitchen. The thatched terrace offers a beautiful view over Kololo and Welgevonden. The second bedroom has a private terrace and entrance. 1 bedroom with double bed, separate bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. 1 bedroom with 2 single beds and en-suite bathroom (shower). Telephone and wireless internet.
(6 pax, 3 bedrooms, min 4 pax) – A spacious villa, with separate dining and living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with all electrical appliances. Kings has its own swimming pool and boma (outdoor barbecue). The terraces have a thatched roof and offer a magnificent view of Kololo and Welgevonden Game Reserve. 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. 1 bedroom with double bed, ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet. 1 bedroom with double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet (this bedroom is located above the garage, just outside the Villa). Dinner & Bed & Breakfast
Rates are inclusive of dinner, bed and breakfast. For dinner, choose from a variety of mouth-watering dishes from the a la Carte menu prepared by Kololo’s gourmet chef. Lunch may be enjoyed at Kololo’s restaurant.
A lounge and bar are available for guests’ enjoyment. Relax in the warmth of the African sun by the swimming pool’s wooden sundeck. Drinks and snacks may be ordered poolside, and lounges and parasols are provided for your comfort.
For Guests with Disabilities
Kudu Chalet (2 persons) is completely wheelchair friendly. Centrally located next to the restaurant and swimming pool, both accessible via illuminated, concrete paths. Wide entrance, no thresholds, large shower with taps at the entrance, separate toilet and plenty of room ensure a warm welcome for those guests using a wheelchair, who wish to enjoy the beauty of the African bushveld.
Kololo Game Drive in (1 and a half hours) – morning and afternoon drives available. Departs each day, between 6-7 a.m. or between 15h00 and 16h00. Drink and a snack included. R475
Welgevonden Full Day Game Drive (6 hours) – morning departure. Breakfast included. R675.
Walking Safari – under the guidance and protection of certified rangers. An exhilarating adventure that allows you to explore the reserve in an exclusive and intimate manner. Organized for groups of 4-8 guests. Approximately 3 hours in length, including a visit to a delicate prehistoric rock art site. Reservation is required before arrival. Participation in this activity cannot always be guaranteed as it depends upon the availability of the rangers. R 750 pp.
Full Day visit to Bushpig Lapa – morning departure. Game drive in an open safari vehicle, followed by lunch in the Bushpig Lapa within Welgevonden – a camp site with a special braai area. After the braai, an afternoon game drive and sunset before returning to Kololo. R 800 pp. (Minimum 4 pax)
Guided walks and game drives within Kololo are available, free of charge to guests.
Kololo Kids Safari – Children 4-12 years. The Kololo ranger will accompany your child on a bushveld expedition, teaching them about nature in a fun and interactive way. A wide variety of activities is combined to make their stay more exciting. Kids receive a Bushveld Safari Book that will remind them of this wonderful learning adventure with fun questions, colourings and puzzles about animals. A wide range of activities to offer (The program of the kids safari varies depending on the children’s interest):
Kololo bush walk or game drive with explanation about tracks, dung, mammals, birds, insects, trees and species of grass. Funny, traditional and exciting Boerensports: bow and arrow, walking with eggs, rope jumping, tug-o’war, mud crawling, water balloon fight, crouching under a net, Jump as a klipspringer and bag and jumping Indoor activities: Face painting, colouring and painting. Hiking & Cycling – many walking trails, for walking or mountain biking, ranging from 2-15 kms. There are 3 cycling and walking trails. Children’s bikes are also available. No additional cost.
Bush Braai & Bush Breakfast– Kololo regularly organizes a breakfast or dinner in the bush. By foot, bike or car, guests are brought to an idyllic spot in the bush where everything is prepared for a superb breakfast or a sumptuous braai.
Birdwatching – binoculars provided to explore birders’ paradise. Enjoy a picnic lunch packed by Kololo’s restaurant, and listen to the sounds of nature that surround you.
Swimming – relax with a book or bask in the sun at the swimming pool, adjacent to the restaurant, and order a refreshing drink and snack from our waiters.
Kind to the earth, Caring to the community
Kololo is a Fair Trade certified, eco-friendly, family oriented, four star rated game reserve, nestled within the larger Welgevonden Game Reserve. Giving back to the local community and nature as well as the needs of guests is at the heart of Kololo’s presence in Welgevonden. Corporate social responsibility and sustainabilty are core values of Kololo Game Reserve, which aims to be self-sufficient, and to operate in harmony with nature. Guests can enjoy a real African experience, but also giving back to the community through social investment.
Kololo has implemented a long-term Green Plan where aspects such as energy, water and waste have been accounted for. In the coming years, Kololo will switch to solar power. Kololo Game Reserve supports the Waterberg Welfare Society (WWS). WWS was formed in 2000 primarily to provide help and support to those individuals infected and affected by the pandemic HIV/AIDS. Some things WWS provides is educational prevention and awareness workshops, home community based care, supporting groups who are living with HIV\AIDS, support in accessing antiretroviral treatment, youth programs and life skills in schools. There are opportunities to visit the WWS center in Vaalwater.
