With over 37 000 hectares of diverse landscapes – Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is home to over 50 different mammals including the Big Five, and our 4-Day Welgevonden Safari gives you a taste of all it has to offer!

Just an easy three-hour drive, or 45-minute flight from Johannesburg – Welgevonden is the perfect weekend getaway to unwind, lounge in luxury, experience the African bush and all it has to offer. The reserve has one of the largest populations of white rhino of any of Africa’s private reserves as well as kudu, giraffe, zebra, warthog, cheetah, brown hyena, the honey badger, close to 300 bird species and a whole lot more.

Welgevonden’s safari grants you the opportunity to put your feet up without having to worry about transfers, catering and accommodation. Your only duty on your safari is to keep your eyes sharp for wildlife.

Your stay will be in luxury en-suite rooms in one of our various, luxury lodges on offer. Most lodges are secluded and offer a maximum of ten guests and have been built with the strictest aesthetic attention to the surrounding environment.

All Welgevonden’s lodges offer a range of game drives, activities, fabulous vistas and first-rate facilities and service including the best food and wine that South Africa has to offer.

Day 1: Welgevonden Game reserve, Gauteng

Once you have arrived at Johannesburg International Airport, you will be met by a representative who will transport you to your lodge around midday, allowing you settle down before lunch, after which you will enjoy an evening game drive through the park.

After getting up-close and personal with some of Africa’s premier wildlife, you’ll return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious dinner accompanied by your choice from the extensive drinks and wine list.

Meals: Lunch and dinner included (excluding beverages)

Day 2 – 3: Full days in the park

It’s an early start to the day, and after a cup of coffee and something to nibble on, you’ll set off on your early morning game drive around the reserve. Setting off before the sun comes up – allows you the chance to spot some of the parks nocturnal creatures as well as other animals as they begin their day.

After our excursion, we return to the lodge for a tasty breakfast, after which you’ll have time to relax and explore the lodge’s facilities or even book yourself in for a rewarding spa treatment.

After lunch it will be time to depart on your afternoon game drive. This drive often extends into the early hours of the evening – depending on the sights and situations you stumble across on your adventure! After this, you will return to the lodge for dinner and a warm evening around the fire.

Meals: Full board included (excluding beverages)

Day 4: Departure

On your last day you will rise early to go off on your final game drive to see Welgevonden Game Reserve before the sun rises to find the species that eluded you and to grab those final photographic opportunities. After the drive you will return to the lodge to gather your things before your transfer heads back to the airport for your further travel arrangements.

Meals: Breakfast included (excluding beverages)

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as during mealtimes. Guests arriving at OR Tambo Airport are advised to land by no later than 08h00 (domestic) or 07h00 (international) in order to have enough time to make the scheduled transfers within the game reserve to the respective lodge.

Each lodge has different policies for children in relation to accommodation and game drives, and are decided at the sole discretion of the manager or guide. Where possible, a kids’ safari will be arranged between normal safari times, and baby-sitting can be arranged at the lodge at an additional charge.

Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 17h00 (domestic) or 18h00 (international) in order to have enough time to get to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
