01 — Overview
The safari lodge
A slow safari is the name of the game at Thaba Metsi Private Game Lodge in the heart of Welgevonden Game Reserve: there is no rushing around but rather time to truly unwind, relax and let the bush take care of the rest. The owner-managers ensure guests enjoy delicious leisurely meals and even heat the pool in autumn and winter so you can enjoy soothing swims year around. Those who really want to raise their pulses can hit the outdoor gym, which is shaded by a canopy of mature trees. Then relax again by heading to the spa to ensure full-on pampering.
The lodge accepts children over 12 unless it is booked on an exclusive basis, in which case kids of all ages are welcome (only guests 16 and older may participate in bush walks). A private game-drive vehicle is available if you want to make your stay even more private and exclusive.

Safari experiences
Sunrise and sunset game drives by qualified guides highlight the area’s game during their most active times of the day. In addition to the Big 5, Welgevonden is also home to other rare species like cheetah and wild dog. Nature walks should be booked in advance to ensure availability.
